Auditing could be described as a very unique form of personal counseling, which helps an individual
to look at his own existence and improve his ability to confront what he is and where he is. There are
vast differences between the technology of auditing and other forms of counseling. The person being
audited is completely aware of everything that happens. Auditing is a precise thoroughly codified
activity with exact procedures.
The goal of auditing is to restore beingness and ability.
- Helping the individual rid himself of any disabilities and
- increasing individual abilities to accomplish this; both are necessary for an individual to
achieve full potential.
According to Dianetics, the mind has two very distinct parts. One of these—that part which one
consciously uses and is aware of—is called the Analytical Mind. This is the portion of the mind that
thinks, observes data, remembers, and resolves problems. However, in moments of intense pain, both
physical and mental, the action of the Analytical Mind is suspended, and the second part of the mind,
the Reactive Mind, takes over. The Reactive Mind exactly records all the perceptions of that incident,
including what happened or was said around the person. It is not under his direct control, causing
unevaluated, unknowing, and unwanted fears, emotions, pains, and psychosomatic illnesses that one
would be much better off without. Auditing, then, deletes those things that have been added to the
person's Reactive Mind through life's painful experiences and, as well, addresses and improves the
person's ability to confront and handle the factors in his life.
